SKINK Design PROCESS

design PROCESS

1. Study

I discovered that bobtail/shingle back skinks exist and that they are fat, round, and perfect.

2. Stylize

Spent some time trying to figure out the best way to stylize this perfect round boy. A bit of an adventure, since this is my first time drawing animals.

3. Color Test

Even though I was basing him off one specific type of skink, it didn't mean I had to stick to his color scheme.

4. Color Scheme

In the end, I went with the blue-tailed skink's coloration -- mostly because this type of skink is common in parts of Hong Kong, just like I am common in parts of Hong Kong.

5. Sketch

A skinky sketch

6. Flats

Skinky flat colors

7. Shade

Skinky shading. I've never really done ambient light shading before, but I thought this would best showcase his softness and squishiness.

8. Finalize

Uh oh, skinky!
