Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been drawing for?
I used to draw as a kid, but I quit for 10+ years to focus on my software engineering career. I recently started drawing more seriously in late 2019 so I could draw Fire Emblem Three Houses husbandos.

I’ve never drawn before. How do I get started with drawing?
I think the most important thing for a beginner to do is to find out what you enjoy drawing. If you find it fun, everything else falls into place. Just start by sitting down and drawing, something, anything. Pick a thing that is sitting on your desk and copy it. Draw fanart of a thing you love. If you’d prefer a more structured approach, drawabox is an option — though I find this sort of person also tends to overdo it and burn themselves out immediately, then decide that they hate drawing after all.

Which resources do you recommend to learn anatomy?
Michael Hampton's Design and Invention and Anatomy for Sculptors are two of my favs.

How do you keep motivated?
I just really love drawing. There’s nothing else I’d rather be doing. I love studying too, because I love seeing improvements in my work.

Where do you find your references?
Mostly off Google or Pinterest. I have a few reference packs from Grafit studies for nudes. Sometimes I use 3d models from SketchFab as reference.

How do you decide what to study? Do you have a schedule?
Typically I observe a thing that I’m bad or or would like to improve at, and just work on that until I feel satisfied. I have never had a schedule because they make me feel constrained.

Where can I sign up for online art classes?
The Workshop Academy, Underpaint Academy, and Brainstorm School are three places you can look. I only sign up for classes where I can get personalized feedback and critique. I mostly pick classes that don’t require me to wake up at stupid o’clock in my time zone.

If you have any other questions, a good time to ask is when I’m streaming.
